Clothing for stoma users, consists of underwear and sports wear. Also included here is hernia support belts.
There are 3 levels of support for Ostomates
Level 1
Used in the first 6 weeks after surgery. A level 1 belt will hold the bag close to the skin and also useful at night time.
Level 2
This is a slightly stronger support available as underwear/ swimwear and vests
Level 3
This is a hernia prevention belt (hopefully) or support. There are various sizes and types. Some with a shield and others have an opening for the bag to fit through
Some companies provide stoma garments which are not classified with a support level. By all means use them if you find them suitable. However for contact sports or heaving lifting it would be preferable to use level 3 support.
